Shoprite Community Network

The Shoprite Community Network programme is a social upliftment initiative run by Shoprite and is aimed at helping organisations that make a difference in their communities. During the monthly broadcast on eleven regional radio stations, the general public is asked to nominate a deserving community project in their area. Every month, one project per station is selected to receive R10 000 worth of aid from Shoprite.

Through Shoprite Community Network, Shoprite has provided millions of rands to community organisations caring for those in need, such as HIV positive mothers, orphans, the disabled, chronically ill patients, and street children.

One of the eleven non-profit organisations that recently benefited from the programme is the ACFS Community Education and Feeding Scheme in Gauteng. When Ukhozi FM listeners recently nominated the ACFS - an organization that provides at least one daily meal to more than 22 000 children - Shoprite proudly supported them with much needed food hampers to the value of R10 000. Bosele Home Based Care, a support centre for HIV/Aids and TB patients in Kuruman, also received Shoprite grocery hampers worth R10 000 and the Diepsloot Youth Arts & Culture Project were given a photocopier and art supplies to the value of R10 000.

Recently, Goitseoone Pre-School also benefited from the project with tables, chairs, a brand new Jungle Gym and an invaluable array of educational toys for the development of the children at the school.
