BEETROOT
  • Description:

    With its fresh thyme and sesame seeds, this roasted beetroot dish is a truly delicious side for your next braai. Don’t forget the charred onions – they add another layer of flavour that’s simply unforgettable.

  • Ingredients:

    1kg beetroot, washed well
    3 red onions

    30ml olive oil
    Salt and pepper for seasoning

    5-6 thyme sprigs
    15ml sesame seeds

  • Method:

    1. Preheat an oven to 200C.
    2. Prepare a roasting pan with foil.
    3. Wash the beetroots well and peel the skin but don’t cut off the top or the root.
    4. Place the beetroots into the prepared pan.
    5. Cut the red onions into 6 segments and place with the beetroots in the same roasting pan.
    6. Drizzle the beetroot and onion with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
    7. Lastly, top with the thyme sprigs and place in the oven to bake. Bake for 45 minutes until the beetroots are soft when tested with a skewer and the onions are charred.
    8. Leave to cool and then cut the beetroot into cubes or segments.
    9. Place in a bowl along with the charred onions and garnish with a few sesame seeds.
    10. Serve as an accompaniment to your Braai
