• Description:

    The combination of Zip-Cola, Worcestershire sauce and succulent chicken makes for a deliciously sticky dish that’s perfect all year round. Feel free to add it to your other meat on the braai for extra goodness. Preparation: 10 min. Cooking: 1 hr. Serves 4 Tip: If you like a little heat, add 1/2 tsp. (3 ml) chilli flakes to your sauce before simmering. This sauce is also delicious on ribs and steak.

  • Ingredients:

    1/2 cup (125 ml) brown sugar
    1 can (340 ml) Zip-Cola
    1 medium onion; peeled and chopped
    2 garlic cloves; peeled and chopped

    2 tbsp. (30ml) Worcestershire sauce
    Salt and pepper to taste

    1 kg chicken portions
    Chopped parsley; to garnish (optional)

  • Method:

    1. Place brown sugar, cola, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce into a flame-proof pan and place over medium coals, or over medium heat on the stove. Simmer until thickened.
    2. Place chicken pieces into a dish with the sauce and toss to coat well. Place chicken pieces over medium coals and braai for about 35 – 40 minutes, turning 3 – 4 times until cooked through and caramelised. Garnish with chopped parsley.
    3. Serve with braaied mielies and salad.
