Beef Potjie Recipe by Chef Zanele

Description

This mouthwatering beef potjie recipe is perfect for when winter’s chill sets in. This easy potjie recipe can be prepared and left to simmer gently while you relax. 

Directions

1. Dust the beef cubes with flour, then add oil to a pot on medium to high heat and brown the meat.

2. Add the onion, barbecue spice and thyme. Stir to combine and fry for 1 to 2 minutes. 

3. Dissolve the stock in the boiling water and pour into the pot.

4. Gently stir. Add carrots and potatoes.

5. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 – 40 minutes, then add mushrooms, season with salt and pepper and let it cook for a further 15 minutes until soft and tender.

  • 500 g beef; cubed 
  • 15 ml oil 
  • 60 ml flour 
  • 1 medium onion; diced 
  • 15 ml barbecue spice 
  • 15 ml dried thyme 
  • 1 cube beef stock 
  • 500 ml of boiling water 
  • 2 carrots; roughly chopped 
  • 4 potatoes; peeled and cubed 
  • 350 g mushrooms 
  • Salt and pepper
