How it works

How to send money in South Africa

  • Go to any Shoprite Money Market counter or till point.
  • Take your ID, the money you want to send, plus R9,99 for the transfer.
  • The money can be sent to anyone and they can collect it immediately at any Shoprite store in SA.
  • After you’ve selected and entered a secret 4-digit PIN, you’ll be given a Money Market transfer number. Make sure you only give these numbers to the person who will collect the money on the other side.


How to collect/receive the money in South Africa

  • Go to any till or Money Market counter at your nearest Shoprite with your ID book.
  • Give the money transfer number to the cashier and enter your secret PIN.
  • You will get the money immediately.


How to send money to Lesotho

  • Go to any till or Money Market counter at your nearest Shoprite store in RSA and take the money you want to send with you.
  • You also need to bring R9,99 for the transfer, your original SA ID book, original proof of address, a copy of your SA ID book and a copy of proof of address with you. This must be a residential address less than 3 months old and not a postal address.
  • A Lesotho national who does not have a South African ID book must bring their original passport, original residence permit, original proof of RSA residential address, copy of passport, copy of proof of address as well as a copy of their residence permit.
  • After you’ve selected and entered a secret 4-digit PIN, you’ll be given a Money Market transfer number. Make sure you only give these numbers to the person who will collect the money on the other side.


How to collect/receive money in Lesotho

  • Go to any till or the Money Market counter at your nearest Shoprite store in Lesotho.
  • South African nationals can receive money in Lesotho by presenting their original SA passport, original proof of address, a copy of their SA passport and a copy of proof of address.
  • Lesotho nationals can receive money by presenting proof of address as well as their passport. Otherwise, they can also present their Electoral Card or Lesotho ID card. Either way, be sure to bring originals as well as copies of all documents.
  • After you have registered for receiving money in Lesotho once you only need your SA passport or Lesotho ID and will not need to bring your residence permit, proof of address or any copies with you again.
